The 1960 Chevrolet Corvette is visually unchanged form the 1959 model year. Color options were Roman Red, Honduras Maroon, Ermine White, Tasco Turquoise, Tuxedo Black, Horizon Blue, and Cascade Green. Convertible top colors were black, blue, red, and turquoise. A little over 500 Corvettes for this year were optioned with power windows, while 512 were selected with a power convertible soft top.
Engine options were largely carried over from the 1959 model year. All were versions of the 283 cid Chevy small-block V-8, and there were as many as seven configurations, ranging from the base 230 hp model with a single four-barrel carburetor, all the way up to a 315 hp model that utilized fuel injection and a high-lift camshaft.
Transmission options continued to be a 2-speed automatic, 3-speed manual and 4-speed manual. All fuel injected models came with a manual transmission and were not available with an automatic.
Fuel injected models featured aluminum radiators, and although aluminum heads were planned, they never made it to production since they tended to crack and warp during testing. An aluminum clutch housing, meanwhile, reduced weight by 18 pounds.
The 1960 Corvette featured a stronger front sway bar as well as a new rear sway bar, which improved handling. Just over 100 Corvettes were optioned with the heavy duty brakes and sport steering.
General Motors produced 10,261 Chevrolet Corvettes for 1960. The rarest shade for this year was Cascade Green, which was a metallic color.
